What is online backup? Back to top

Level2 offers an online backup service which is an automated solution that allows Servers, PCs and laptops to backup and recover data securely online. Our service automatically backs up computers via an internet connection to our secure data centers located in different states hundreds of miles away.

Why do I need an online backup service? Back to top

It is essential that computers containing critical data are routinely backed up. Most users do not backup their files as often as they should and, even if they do, they do not store their data safely off-site

Is online backup secure? Back to top

ABSOLUTELY. Security and stability are our highest priorities. When backing up, your data is first secured with 128-bit encryption, which is typically used by banks, military and governmental agencies, before transmission to our off-site storage locations. Data is then safely stored on our servers while remaining encrypted and can only be unlocked with your password (secret key). Only you have access to unlock the data. (If you lose the secret key, Level2 administrators have no ability to retrieve your data and your data cannot be unlocked).

What is the secret key? Back to top

The secret key is a string of characters made up by you and is used to encrypt all data that is stored on our servers. The secret key can be changed at any time. If the secret key is forgotten or lost, Level2 administrators will not be able to recover the data that is stored on our server.

If I change my secret key, can I still restore old data? Back to top

When you change the secret key, the previous secret key are encrypted together using the latest secret key.

How does Level2's Secure Online Backup work? Back to top

Level2's Secure Online Backup performs a backup of all files you select through our easy-to-use interface (files can be added to or removed from the backup set any time with this interface). Your initial backup securely copies your selected files to our state-of-the-art data centers, the data is then replicated to another data center located hundres of miles away. This first backup may run for hours in the background depending on the size of your backup and speed of your Internet connection. The initial backup and all subsequent backups run in the background and will not interfere with your work. After the first backup is completed, each subsequent backup looks for any new files and the changed portions of previously backed-up files to append to the backup set. Backups are kept for a pre-determine period of time depending on the plan selected.

What if I have a slow Internet connection, does it make sense for me to use Online Backup? Back to top

Once the initial backup is completed, each subsequent backup is usually very small. Using a complex metric, our software works out which bytes have changed in your files. Only the changed bytes are uploaded to the backup servers. Most of our clients' scheduled backups are performed in the evenings. Canceled backups are resumed, so time is never wasted backing up data already backup up. All backups run in the background and will not effect daily work.

What files should I select for backup? Back to top

Mission critical data that changes regularly, data that is valuable and cannot be quickly reproduced, data that is required to be stored off-site due to regulatory requirements.

Why not backup all files on my hard drive? Back to top

In a word cost. System files, program files and static non critical files can effectively be backed up to a local drive and restored as required. On-line backup is geared towards critical files. Focus on critical files such as accounting files, project files, My Documents, contact management, patient data, client data and other data critical to your business. Please feel free to contact one of our specialists at 1-877-860-0700, we will gladly assist you in defining your data backup requirements.

What happens if I exceed my quota? Back to top

Can I backup more than one computer to my account? Back to top

Absolutely, you may add as many computers to your account as you like (licensing fees may apply).

How often should I run my online backup? Back to top

Most users backup their data daily. If you have mission critical applications you may choose to back them up twice a day. Each “backup set” will have its own schedule. With Level2 your have the ability to perform online backups on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly schedule.

What if I already have a tape backup system? Back to top

The two system will actually compliment each other. Critical files, can be backed up to the online backup system, while the tape system can be used to create a full backup of the entire system including critical but relatively static system files. The remote backup system can provide a quick and easy way to retrieve critical files and databases anywhere, any time.

Can I restore data to a different computer than the one that was backed up? Back to top

Yes, data can be restored to any computer connected to the internet. This is an excellent way to move data or test the restore process.

Can I try the software before I buy it? Back to top

Absolutely. Click here for a no-risk, fully function trial. As a matter of fact we encourage you to try it free.
